Kaptan and I recently traded in our beach house to stay a night at the well known Pendry San Diego located in the heart of the Gaslamp District.
We were lucky enough to experience dinner at LionFish followed by a night at Oxford Social Club. As you will see, all three of these establishments lived far beyond our expectations, as I am sure they will yours as well.
We were immediately greeted with a warm professional welcome followed by a grand lobby that screams nothing less than luxury, class, and inspiration. Our bags were taken care of by the time we reached the front desk, followed by some mint rose water to enjoy while we checked in.
Our concierge was nothing but friendly and professional. She informed us that the Pendy has six restaurants and bars, including LionFish and Oxford Social Club. As if the experience hadn’t been grand enough already, she whispered a secret password provided to all hotel guests to repeat to the bar tender, near the lobby, for a free drink!
Somehow, Pendry San Diego, managed to combine modern and timeless elements into the room, paired with an amazing downtown view.
As we were getting settled in, housekeeping knocked on our door providing turn down service, two chocolate macaroons, water bottles, and anything else we may have needed.
Kaptan of course took full advantage of the large flat screen TV to watch part of the game while playing with the phone I had just seen on the show “Million Dollar Listing New York” to order some room service.
My favorite part of the room was the shower and bathroom vanity. The shower had TWO shower heads, one rainfall and the other positioned perfectly on the marble tiled wall. You also have the option to shower while having access to one of the most beautiful views of Downtown San Diego!
We made our reservation at LionFish for 8:30 so we had time to explore the Gaslamp District. We walked to Horton Plaza, did some window shopping and got some of our favorite gluten free snacks.
At night the hotel transforms as it almost seems to become completely lit by candlelight and fire places.
LionFish and Oxford Social Club
Later that night, we freshened up and change for dinner at LionFish and drinks and dancing at Oxford Social Club.
Once in LionFish we were seated immediately and brought out a selection of chef specials to try, paired with wine. They even catered to Kaptan’s gluten allergies!
The service and food was impeccable. The ambiance completely consumed us. We could have spent all night there talking and laughing, but we knew the Oxford Social Club was waiting!
We were escorted by the manager of LionFish down to Oxford Social Club to what seemed to be a modern 1920’s lounge, while the DJ played Rihanna’s new single Lemon. It was perfect blend of modern trends and luxury. We were introduced to the GM of the Oxford who took great care of us the entire night, making us feel way more important than we actually are. Great service, ambiance, music and people!
Breakfast, Pool, and Check-out
We got up the next morning and immediately asked for a late check out and went to breakfast. The restaurant Provisional, attached to the Pendry, offered amazing breakfast options, decor, and a cute café for the non-breakfast eaters like myself.
After we relaxed in the room, we got ready to explore the rest of the hotel! The pool area is lined with cabanas and lounges overlooking the downtown brick buildings. Kaptan and I will have to come back to experience it when it warms up!
Check-out was seamless, except for the fact that Kaptan had to drag me out while I was trying to calculate how much it would cost to live there permanently.
To say the least if we were to ever need to stay in Downtown San Diego, I would not hesitate to choose the Pendry. It offered everything we needed in order to have an amazing night in the city.
